Ingredients
- ½ cup Toor dal
- 2 tsp Oil / Ghee
- ½ tsp Mustard Seeds
- few Curry Leaves
- 3 Garlic Cloves (crushed)
- 1 Small Onion (cubed)
- 2 Radish (peeled and thinly sliced discs)
- 1 Tomato (chopped)
- 1 Tbsp Sambar Powder
- Salt (as needed)
- ½ cup Tamarind Extract
- ¼ cup Grated Coconut
- 1 cup Water
Instructions
- Pressure cook Toor dal with 3 cups of water.
- While the dal is cooked, peel radish and chop the ends off, slice into thin discs. Chop onion and tomato. Crush 3 garlic cloves and set aside.
- In a cooker add oil/ ghee, mustard seeds and let crackle.
- Add few curry leaves, crushed garlic and cook until light brown.
- Add in onion and cook until translucent.
- Next goes in radish, cook until the raw smell of radish goes off.
- Add tomato and sambar powder, saute for a minute.
- Add salt as per taste, tamarind extract, coconut, and cooked dal.
- Mix well and add water according to the consistency required.
- Close lid and cook for 1 whistle.
- Once the pressure is down, open lid and sambar is ready to be served with steamed rice.
