Ingredients
TO GRIND
- 1 Radish / Daikon (chopped)
- 2-3 Green Chili
- 1 inch Ginger
- A small piece Tamarind
- Few Curry leaves
- Coriander leaves
- ¼ cup Fresh Coconut -optional
- Salt -to taste
- 2 tsp Oil
FOR SEASONING
- 1 tsp Oil
- ¼ tsp Mustard Seeds
- ½ tsp Urad dal
- Few Curry leaves
- A Pinch Hing/Asafoetida
- 1 Dry Red Chili
Instructions
- In a kadai, add 2 tsp oil, green chili, ginger, radish, and curry leaves. Saute until the raw smell of radish goes off. Close lid and cook for 2 mins.
- Next add tamarind, coconut, salt and coriander leaves. Mix well, turn the heat off and let the mixture cool.
- Take the fried mixture in a mixie jar, add little water to grind. Blend to a little coarse paste.
- To season, heat a tsp oil in a pan, add mustard seeds once it crackles add urad dal, saute until golden, add hing, curry leaves, and red chili. Pour this tempering over chutney and mix well.
- Serve with Idli, dosa, vada or several other breakfasts or steamed rice.

Notes
- Add more or less green chili according to spice level required.
- Adding coconut to radish chutney is optional. Can be prepared with or without coconut.
- Adding roasted peanuts would make chutney tastier.
- Shredding the radish instead of chopping helps in cooking the radish fast.
