Methi Soya Rice | ಮೆಂತ್ಯ ಬಾತ್ | Instant pot Recipe
Methi-Soya Rice is a simple, Indian, flavored rice using fenugreek leaves & soya. It is so delicious-nutritious.
Servings: 6
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp Cooking Oil
- 1 Tbsp Ghee
- 3 Green Chili (slitted)
- 1 Large Onion (thinly sliced)
- 2 tsp Ginger-Garlic Paste
- 1 small Tomato (finely chopped)
- 1 cup Green Peas (fresh/frozen)
- 3 cups Methi Leaves (rinsed & chopped)
- 2½ cups Rice
- 4½ cups water
- ½ cup Soya Mini Chunks (boiled)
- Salt (to taste)
- 2 tsp Curd
- 1 tsp Lime Juice
Whole Spices:
- 1 inch Cinnamon
- 1 tsp Fennel Seeds
- 2 Cardamom
- 1 Star Anise
- 1 Bay Leaf
- 4 Cloves
Instructions
Preparation:
- Wash rice thoroughly and Soak for 20 mins.
- While the rice is soaking chop onion, tomato and methi leaves.
- Microwave Soya chunks for 1 min or boil on the stovetop for 2-3 mins. Rinse in cold water a few times and squeeze dry.
Instant Pot Method :
- Turn on InstaPot to SAUTE mode. Add oil and ghee, once hot add whole spices.
- Add onion & chili, saute until onions turn golden brown in color; stir occasionally.
- Add ginger garlic paste and saute until raw smell of paste goes off.
- Add in Tomato and cook until soft.
- Add green peas and methi, saute until the leaves wilt off.
- Then add Rice(used Sona Masoori Rice in this recipe) and keep stirring for about a min.
- Add water(depends on the type of rice using) and give a mix.
- Add salt according to your taste, Soya Chunks, Curd and lime juice; Mix well.
- Close Lid of InstaPot and turn the valve to SEALING.
- Press CANCEL button, turn on MANUAL mode(High-Pressure), Set timer to 6 minutes.
- Wait for Natural Pressure Release(NPR) and open lid.**BE CAREFUL OF THE HOT STEAM**
- Mix Rice gently and serve hot with raita or coconut chutney.
Pressure Cooker Method:
- In a pressure cooker heat oil & ghee on medium flame, once it’s hot add whole spices.
- Then add onion, saute until onions turn golden brown in color.
- Add ginger garlic paste and saute until raw smell of paste goes off.
- Add in Tomato and cook until soft.
- Add green peas and methi, saute until the leaves wilt off.
- Then add Rice(used Sona Masoori Rice in this recipe) and keep stirring for about a min.
- Add water(depends on the type of rice using) and give a mix.
- Add salt according to your taste, soya chunks, curd, and lime juice; Mix well.
- Close the Lid, with a whistle on it. Cook for 2 whistles and off the stove.
- Once the pressure goes down, mix rice gently and serve hot with raita or coconut chutney.

- While preparing Ginger Garlic paste use 40:60 (Ginger: Garlic) Ratio.
- The Rice-water proportion differs on the type of rice using.
- Soya Chunks is a good source of protein. Try Methi rice with soya for add-on health benefit.
- You could even add half a cup of sweet corn, along with peas for extra taste and kids would love to eat this dish.
