Mango rice / Mavinakayi Chitranna is a classic rice dish made in south India. Typically cooked in festivals mainly during the summer season.

Ingredients
To Grind
- 1 Raw Mango (grated)
- ¼ cup Fresh Coconut
- 4 to 5 Green Chili
To Powder
- 1 tsp Cumin / Jeera
- ½ tsp Mustard Seeds
- ¼ tsp Methi Seeds
To make mango rice
- 4 tsp Oil
- ½ tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1 tsp Chana Dal
- 1 tsp Urad Dal
- few Curry Leaves
- 2 dry Red Chili
- ¼ cup Peanuts
- ¼ tsp Asafoetida / Hing
- ¼ tsp Turmeric
- Salt (as needed)
- ½ cup Coriander Leaves
Instructions
- Blend raw mango, coconut and green chili to a coarse paste (Just 1 or 2 pulses).
- Make a fine powder of cumin, mustard and methi seeds.
- Heat pan, add oil, mustard seeds and let crackle. add chana dal urad dal, curry leaves, and red chili.
- In low-flame add peanuts and saute until light brown.
- Add hing, turmeric and Mango-coconut mixture, and Saute for a minute or 2.
- Add salt as per taste then prepared powder and coriander leaves. Mix well.
- Refrigerate little prepared mixture for later use.
- For the remaining mixture add in cooked rice and mix gently.
- Enjoy this tangy & tasty mango rice !!!
